Braid Tales

I saw  REAL, RAW, Arousing, Righteous, Inspiring Theater performance at GSU Saturday Night.
The "Braid tales" performance was an inclusive interpretation of the Chicago Streets with Hip Hop, Break dancing, Dance Troops that kept you on the edge of your seat. Every word spoken, every movement made, every portion of lighting, music, stage presence made me proud to know I go to GSU.
I also am proud to know that in Chicago land regardless of how the streets can be very dangerous and unwelcoming to many, it also holds the keys to the cities finest actors and actresses to bring a shining light of HOPE for a positive future for the people who live here.
We are very fortunate to have such talented people who see the beauty in the bad.  The truth in the spoken and unspoken word. Regardless of the mother who removed her children from the beginning of the performance because of the vulgar language used in a scene of the performance. There was a valuable lesson learned.
No matter what negativity the streets may bring, (sex, violence, drugs, and demeaning life of an individual), every person has a chance to make a better life for themselves. Become someone. Be a self-respected individual filled with HOPE, pride, self-control, and a positive example to others around them.

I would definitely  recommend others to see this play, one of which I spoke to was my Youth group at church. P>S> I also had a brief moment with  Lady Sol afterwards and thanked her for the hard work she and all the cast put into the production. While getting her autograph.

  1. Notably, After reviewing Richard Christiansen's " A Theater of Our Own: A History and A Memoir of 1,001 Nights in Chicago," the aspect of knowing Chicago land Theater has comes a long way in not quite 200 years. Seeing a few plays in my life time, and expecting to see many more in the future, leads me to a sense of gratitude to the talented people who put themselves in front of complete strangers to tell their stories. Whether it be the Hip Hop, Break Dancing and realized stories from street life as viewed through poetry, dance, and music, as in "Braid tales, " the appreciation for the bold and sometimes timid performers can tell the story to inspire and teach. I truly appreciate the quoted text in Christainsen's book, "a large picture of a rich history" is viewed through the eyes of a seasoned actor who was willing to inspire others, " give you a little push in thew right direction." Perhaps that is what theater does for many? I can attest to this it does inspire me and pushes me in a direct direction. To open the avenues of adventure through realms of facts or fiction. Whether plays like "NUN SENSE" or "ANNIE" are true or not or "Peter Pan" for that matter has the essence of adventure for the viewer to explore. Learning the historical facts of Chicago Theater through Christiansen's eyes, leaves me with a sense of gratitude to the efforts made to make Chicago theater what it is today.
As stated by Christensen, " that rare, precious, and frustrating quality sets the performing arts apart from movies, TV shows, recordings, and the printed word." " A once-in-a-lifetime experience."
Well spoken words to say the least and as a re-awoken theater goer, those words have a lot of meaning and truth. Lois "LO" Nemeth 2-1-13
